About meJust a typical polymath.

Feel free to leave comments if you notice any errors in my catalog. :)

About my libraryA room without books is like a body without a soul. - Cicero
(What? You don't have books in your bathroom?)
A truly great library contains something in it to offend everyone. - Jo Godwin
(And once I get everything up here...)

"'What shall I do with all my books?' was the question, and the answer, 'Read them,' sobered the questioner. But if you cannot read them, at the very least handle them and, as it were, fondle them. Peer into them. Let them fall open as they will. Read on from the first sentence that turns the eye. Then turn to another. Make a voyage of discovery, taking soundings of uncharted seas. Set them back on their shelves with your own hands. Arrange them on your own plan, so that if you do not know what is in them, you at least know where they are. If they cannot be your friends, let them at any rate be your acquaintances. If they cannot enter the circle of your life, do not deny them at least a nod of recognition."
(Winston S. Churchill, Amid These Storms)

Have a cookie. They're tasty. Watch the crumbs around the books though.

Do you like tags? I like tags. I like shelves too.

Genre (Partial): Fiction, Nonfiction, Education, History, Classics, Survival, Fantasy, Science Fantasy, Science Fiction, Science, Travel, Space Travel, Time Travel, Supernatural, Shapeshifters, Size.

Division Rules (expanded from PortiaLong's version)
I'm not bothering to include most anthologies and collections until the multi-author system arrives, if not subworks too... And don't even get me started on translators.

*Anthology : group of short works by different authors - author listed as "(Editor), Last First"
[example: Tomorrow, The Stars by Heinlein Robert A. (Editor)]

*Collection : group of short works by ONE author
[example: Expanded Universe by Robert A. Heinlein]

*Version: Familiar stories in various forms (Aladdin, Tam Lin, Beauty and the Beast), hence versions. These stories are often, but not always, fairy tales. Sometimes they've just been Disneyfied instead.

*Series: This is obvious. Sometimes it's even an omnibus.

*Omnibus : group of longer works, which are also published separately
[example: A Heinlein Trio by Robert A. Heinlein]

*Inclusion (none yet): Smaller work included in larger (Anthology / Collection / Omnibus)
[example: The Puppet Masters by Robert A. Heinlein]

*Also in: Smaller work published separately, when it's also included in a larger (Anthology / Collection / Omnibus).
[example: The Little Lame Prince by Dinah Marie Craik]

*Watchlist: Books I want to read (and don't own). Owning will be decided after reading.

*Wishlist: Books I want to own (and have usually read).

Oh, but I disagree about the Tag Mirror. It's the individuality of the tag clouds I like, the quirks, the completely unexpected rambles I'm inspired to take. It is much less interesting to click on tag "fiction" in the "standardised" Tag Mirror than on that same tag in company of other idiosyncratic tags, which may make me curious about what kind of "fiction" is present in the catalogue. Perhaps I should have said I wasn't entirely serious about learning what a catalogue was "about" via tags, it's just a manner of speaking. But for some it's true more than for others, certainly.
Shapeshifting youth and vampire 11-year-olds!!

But it's the context of the whole cloud that places in relief individual tags, no? It likely wouldn't occur to me to search for tag "forests" or "uncles" or "living abroad" or "World of Darkness" etc. but noticing them in your tag cloud, I'm drawn to click on them.

Tag clouds! Love 'em!
Hmm, can I interest you in Hebrew instead? Of all the language books I've used for various languages over the years, I think The First Hebrew Primer (Amazon: http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/0...) is by far the best.
Unfortunately, this is the only textbook I've used. To be fair, I don't think it's so much uninteresting as frustrating.

I've done a bit of looking on Amazon for other promising books, but they all seem to have their own flaws. This is the one that I'm currently most inclined to purchase: http://www.amazon.com/New-Arabic-Grammar..., but I think it's more a grammar than a typical textbook.

On a completely different note, I've had The Gatekeepers sitting in my TBR pile for a while now. I'm glad to see that you rated it highly.
I got it through the early bird reviewer thing, and I read it and couldn't put it down... I liked it so much that I bought a signed copy of it, waiting to get that so I can reread it with it in my hands.
Ty for helping me
You know, I had heard that "The Host" was actually rather good. But I think I'm off Stephanie Meyer for life now. :)

cheers!
I just added "Daughters of Kura" to my BM inventory and saw it is on your wishlist. I've reserved for friends so it is yours if you want it. If not, no worries.
The Arrow and the Song
by Henry Wadsworth Longfellow

I shoot an arrow into the air,
It fell to earth, I knew not where;
For, so swiftly it flew, the sight
Could not follow it in its flight.

I breathed a song into the air,
It fell to earth, I knew not where;
For who has sight so keen and strong,
That it can follow the flight of song?

Long, long afterward, in an oak
I found the arrow, still unbroke;
And the song, from beginning to end,
I found again in the heart of a friend.
Well, thanks again!

Did you mean Robin McKinley's 'The Hero and the Crown'? I have indeed read it but that and 'The Blue Sword' were borrowed from the library years ago. More recently I stumbled across a copy of Blue Sword and bought it retrospectively, but not yet Hero. Super books. The Blue Sword has one of the most beguiling beginnings to any fantasy novel, I think. Also, being a horsewoman myself, I really appreciated that Robin McKinley clearly knows her horses too. Nothing more irritating than horsy stuff written by people who don't know...
That's perfectly fine! I have a TBR pile of approximately 300 books. I'll be plenty occupied ;-)
The angel mooch for The Blind Assassin fell through (the user's account is now permantly closed) and I was wondering if your offer for your copy still stood.

Hope to hear from you soon!
Thanks!
Unfortunately Y Llyfrgell, "The library" (almost the entire book is situated in the national library of Wales, http://www.llgc.org.uk/) has not been translated yet. Not many books get translated from Welsh to English or to any other language for that matter.
Aw, thanks! I'll most definitely keep that in mind.

It still amazes me sometimes how generous BM/LT folk can be :)
Done...
Thanks for the note about Touchstones on Reviews... I keep forgetting.
Hi Infinite I've seen you in a few groups and noticed I posted a book on Bookmooch thats on your wishlist,The Wright 3 by, Blue Balliet.Thought I'd give you a heads up on it.susiesharp on bookmooch
Hi infinite! I do plan on reading more of MacDonald eventually. I have several of his fantasy books and it *is* interesting to trace the ways he influenced Lewis and Tolkien.
The Treasure Is The Rose is exactly the book I was looking for. You are incredibly kind to offer me your copy. I will take you up on the offer! You can e-mail me at rbtanger@msn.com and I will give you a mailing address. I'm happy to pay-pal you to cover the cost of shipping.
If you're planning on passing on any of those nice paranormal romance type books, I wouldn't mind doing some sort of swap. How goes it?
January 1997 through August 1998. I would be tremendously pleased!
You know, if you have anything, I would not be picky at all about when you were able to send them. It is a long shot, I know, but I'm hoping there's someone out there who suddenly knows why they haven't thrown out those old magazines.
I'm doing NaNoWriMo this year and that's when I plan to set my story. I want a better feel for the time. Historical reasearch!
It is very odd - IIRC, it is set thousands of years before the other two, though in the same world, and does some interesting things with gender role reversal. I'm not saying it's not good, but I didn't love it the way I loved the other two.
Love RMBM; though I think The Grey Mane of Morning is even better! I was always sorry she didn't do more with that world.
Hmm... well, believe it or not, I would have liked MORE zombies and ultra-violent mayhem - especially at the climax. I say 'Go big or go home' when it comes to zombies.

Overall, if you have no expectations, and if you generally like silly, it's diverting - good for a long flight or DMV queue. Some aspects are goofy, others are downright genius.

My biggest complaint was that the binding was too tight - cheap glue? - so the spine broke on day 1. A whole section split out. Still debating whether to return it for another copy.
Hi infinite! I actually have The Host (lent to me by my indefatigable sister!) and have heard it's better than Twilight. I do plan on reading it eventually, but you know how it is... every new book that comes in the mail leaps to the top of the to-read list and all my shelved volumes sigh patiently as they wait their turn :-P
Ha. Personally, I suspect Gaiman's library is more interesting. But Obama's library—every book, not some PR sample—would probably have some bombshells. A president has a copy of Delta of Venus? He's probably not a citizen!

Tim
Hello!

Are you the infiniteletters on BookMooch?

If so, I just posted Gaby Brimmer (on your BookMooch wishlist) to BookMooch. You can mooch it from me now if you want it (and are located inside the USA).

If not, I'll open this mooch up to others.

Best,

Madeline
That's a good idea. I will try that on my next mooch. Thanks for the advice!
Thank you very much!
Hi,

I was wondering if you were able to add another book to the package you are going to send to me?
I came across this book and I already emailed the owner twice to ask for condition etc without getting an answer.
If you aren't able to mooch it for me, I can ask someone else too of course :)

Thank you!

~Selene
Life *is* odd . . . and computers are even odder! :D
Great that it's now working. Thanks for alerting me to the fact it wasn't.
Yes, that link does work for me - but that could be because I'm me. I didn't realise it wasn't working for others. I've altered it, so could you please try it again an let me know. Ta.
Thank you for recommending these newer cozy mysteries. I'll surely check them out. BTW did you find out about me liking old fashioned, cozy mysteries from here?
"BTW, you should change your LT link to Bookmooch to use scarecrow204." Why is that? The link as it is does work - is there a problem with having the same names linked?
Thanks again for the angel mooch.
I've done a couple of the lunch recipes, but I haven't yet done anything paticularly adventurous. My uni doesn't start for another month, I suppose I'll have to do some practising before I go:)
Great, thanks again for the angel mooch.
Michelle
Cleaned up the Young Anthologies page a bit. The "0" copy works don't really need to be combined in so I removed them. ISFDB had some variant titles so I put those and the pub dates in the CK.
Hmmm...I don't know that I have ever actually read "Main Street" by Sinclair Lewis...

***PortiaLong runs off to check...

Flipping through and sampling a few pages, doesn't ring any bells (which actually doesn't mean much - I can be 30-40 pages in before something clicks - my spouse says its because I don't actually read the books - I just devour them in huge chunks without bothering to chew or taste, just bite and swallow).

So, why is it on my bookshelf? - you see the Library Book Sale has these "Bag Days" (Day 1 - brown paper grocery bag = $5, Day 2 until done - brown paper grocery bag = $2)...and on that day I am likely to wander through just tossing things in if they ring any bells: I recognize the author, I recognize the title, the subject "fits" my tastes, the cover is interesting, it is old (Why do I love to own books that are 100+ years old? - if I had a psychiatrist you could ask them.)

So I probably just picked it up because I recognized the author as one of "those" authors. The theory is that if I want to get some "culture" (whatever that is) or if someone says - "You consider yourself a literate person and you have never read anything by blank!?!" I can correct the problem overnight.

So, should I read Main Street? (To find out if I would like Free Air)
oh it was you - I was going to go look when I had a minute - you were so nice to do that. That was when I had only been on about a week. Betty
Thanks you so much for the recommendations! I will check them out and no doubt add them to my giant TBR pile. Thanks again - very kind of you.
It's funny that you would say that, infinite. My sister lent me her copy of The Host but I wasn't sure if I was going to read it or not. There's so much GOOD literature out there, I'm not sure I can justify it to myself after reading all the Twilight books. But I have heard that The Host is better than Twilight from several different sources, so I'm still in the swithers. Maybe I will give Meyer a break and read something classic/well written before starting The Host...
thanks for angeling again for me:)
The idea of filming Tintin makes me very nervous indeed. Half-way between a hero and a superhero, settings that lurch between hyper-real and surreal, both character and caricature...
I'm just letting you know that I've reserved both books you asked me for, and sent e-mail recommendations. :) Thank you very much for contacting me about them! Privileged Hands, especially, I thought I would never find a home for.
Adults, probably. Thanks!
Hi! The user is Arwen and the name Aimar.
Thank you so much!

Well, I really liked the idea of the tattoos being demons and coming alive at night to help the woman. That seemed interesting to me. I also really liked the Zenna Henderson books, which I see you also have. I think I liked that fact that they were about regular people with some extraordinary capabilities. I tend to lose interest if there are a lot of strange creatures - I think I'm always looking for a book about "the human experience". Hard to do with sci-fi, I know...
Yes - I'm not really a sci-fi person, which is why I was nervous about running through the sci-fi shelves. I have SO MANY books to read, I'm scared I'd be tempted to take on a whole new genre.

I thought it was interesting, though, that we both have a copy of Nantucket Summer by Phyllis Green. I read that book WAAAAAAAY back in grade school! I loved it, though....
I stumbled upon your library while browsing through user recommendations. Seems like a pretty nice reference point the next time I'm looking for a new sci-fi or fantasy book to pick up. :)

Also, I'm sorta new to this LibraryThing, so part of the random add was just to play around with the features here and test out the functions. Hope I didn't creep your out or anything, haha.
Hi! I think saratoga99 said she would be willing to be the Australian Angel for Lyn. Thanks though!
Thanks for the offer, I think british ones would probably be easier for me, unless its a really good one, in which case I wouldn't mind using my feeble maths to work out conversion tables:)
Hi,
Could you Angel http://www.bookmooch.com/m/detail/038798... A History of the Mind for me please? I asked, and she couldn't send it to me, but she did reserve it for you.
Thank you again!
> I recommend Practical Demonkeeping. :)

I've wishlisted it. Have you been lurking in Reviews reviewed?
Thanks for the links. I've actually poked through your inventory before and saw the two there. Unfortunately neither of those really are my style, but I'll be on the lookout if you post more in the future.
Thanks for leaving the recs - sorry I didn't reply sooner (saw your post in the Bug group and it jogged my memory) - last one is not yet available on BM. (I'm waiting until LT has colored checks for Wishlists and then I am adding all your recs to my Wishlist here). Good to see you!
IL,
I honestly think it's just the weight and width of Eldest. In paperback it is a really thick book, the hardcover was massive as it was so no suprise the paperback was this big. Eragon is more reasonable. lol I've been planning to buy a lifetime membership to LT come this christmas as a lot of my books in my RL library are not listed because I hit the free threshold. I think geophile told me its 25 dollars canadian for the membership. I just have to clear some space on my card to do it. I may be getting a new job in the next few months which means a pay increase as well as an hour increase. I'll be ok after that if it works out.
~ Missy
IL,
to get a life time account I have to have the money first and right now I'm pretty tapped for cash. I may ask for that from my sister for christmas though so who knows.

Street Magic reserve ends tonight at 7:36 pm. Thanks for grabbing it for me.

So I went to the post office to check the price on sending both books and they wanted $20.00 with tax to send them in a package together so I'm going to try something different. I'm going to wrap the books in plastic with some cardboard and then in brown parcil paper and see if that works out better. I've never sent a book that way before. So I'll probably be shipping one out tomorrow and the other in two weeks. Is there a preference as to which one you get first?
~ Missy
*giggle snort* IL,
So you've got what five one the way to you and three sitting there waiting for the others to arrive? My dear you do a whole lot of Angel mooching no wonder your wishlist is still so long. Thanks for picking up those books for me, I always try to keep the paper backs on hand so I don't ruin my hard covers or for that matter my dust jackets. However I always end up giving my paperbacks away when someone becomes intrested in the series. hehe I love to encourage reading. anywho thanks again I should be sending either Eragon or Eldest today. *hugs of thanks*
~ Missy
I definitely do need to have my eyes checked...the book with the four stars is third on your list.
LOL

Irene
But that is what makes your library so interesting. And anyone who has read, "...And Ladies of the Club," gets a star from me!!

All the best,
Irene
Hahaha, I'll give it a look!
Yhea, I get that, I really do. I just have a thing with cliffhangers, they bug the heck out of me. My copy of "Glass Houses" by Rachel Caine almost wound up in the blender because of the cliffhanger ending despite the fact that I loved the story. In "The Bone Doll's Twin" I think I would have liked to have seen an additional few chapter wrapping up the current course of action rather than just being left in limbo. Thankfully I was able to readily pick up "Hidden Warrior" so it wasn't such a long wait.
Hahaha! :3 So true. I cannot wait to get the Amelia Peabody books; I'm obsessed with Egypt!

I have The Egypt Game somewhere in a box in my attic. Someday I need to go in there (there's a wasps nest in there right now, waaaah) and see if there's anything moochworthy. :D
hi! :D thanks for letting me add you; we've got some books in common! i'm waiting on the first 2 No.1 Ladies Detective Agency books so I will let you know how I like it! :D
IL,
I'll post them both reserved to you and I'll send at least one out this friday coming. You can tell me which one you'd like to have first. I hope you're able to pick up the other ones you're looking for too.
~ Missy
Hey IL,
Just wondering if you're still intrested in the Eragon and Eldest books I have? I do have a second copy of Eldest coming through the angel network so if you don't like the description of the one I have on hand at the moment. I'll be shipping one book next week so if you want the Eragon I can add it to my invintory and reserve it in your name. The Eragon is like new with minor shelf wear and the dragon on the cover. Let me know.
~ Missy
Hi, I emailed Maureen re changing the reservation into your name. Thanks for the reminder - I'll let you know when I hear back from her (taking into account the whole time differences) :)
I'm always wiling to angel books, it means that when I need points I'm not forced to list books I dont want to get rid of because it has a pretty cover, and I need it to go with others of that genre, and I do have another book by that author, and its a first edition, what if its worth something in 20 years....
So yeah, I'll angel more books for you:)
Yes alot of fantasy. Sometimes I beat you though! Muahahaha!

I do get alot of ARCs. I have no idea why I get so many from LT Early Readers Program. Everyone else I know have only gotten like 1 or 2 a year. I guess I am just lucky that way.

I get alot of my ARCs from Shelf Awareness as well.

I have been to the Baen library too.

I just love books and cant stop getting new ones. It is a sickness really. Even reading 100+ books a year doesn't begin to put a dent into the books I have and have not read.

But, with a 2 year old and a baby due any day now, I am sure that my reading will slow down even more. So sad.

:)
Jenn
I can just see the look on the PO workers faces when you walk in with a stack of 30 packages ready to mail. :)
Thanks, infiniteletters - you mooched the Loud Mouth Notaro for me. Still starfishian on Bookmooch, too.

I hope you're having a great summer.

S.
"P.S. Your "cheap" costs match my international rates, and I'm mostly mailing those anyhow"

Well, infiniteletters, I'm a little jealous, but I've come to terms with it. (I've seen the amount of postage on packages for a while now.)

What really makes me see red, however, are days like about a week ago, when I sent packages at the same time to Calgary (similiar to sending from Buffalo to Denver), and to Greece. The package to Greece was cheaper!

Within the country, we have all these "bells and whistles" like tracking numbers, etc. and we can't opt out of the fancy stuff that we don't need, so it's really expensive.

On the bright side, I've met several really nice people, because if we can, we arrange to exchange in person, rather than going through the post office.
Good luck! Really hope you get your hands on it, because they don't come up very often.
He just said not to the UK. Which is madness. Costs within Europe are pretty reasonable.

Really sorry about that :(
Yeah, I put Russ's "The Female Man" and Marge Piercy's "Woman on the Edge of Time" on my BM wishlist after reading about them on some "Women in SF" or "SF Feminism" threads in the Sci-Fi Fans forum. Meh. Both have some interesting ideas about what a future culture might look like and some insight into our hang-ups etc. now - but the writing styles are driving me nuts. And the "science" part is sorely lacking...
OH - and I just rec'd "Beg for Mercy" by Toni Andrews with a shipment from Half.com - will read it when I'm done with "The Female Man" by Joanna Russ.
I found a copy of Catspaw on BM to mooch and put Psion and Dreamfall on wishlist. I just read my first short story by Joan Vinge - Tin Soldier in the anthology "More Women of Wonder" and was suitably impressed. (Although this may been unduly influenced by my "meh" reaction to the rest of the anthology."

Will BM wishlist the other series as well.
Thanks for being a BookMooch angel! I'll be sending the book out tomorrow.
Thanks for the recs!
I'll be adding them to my BookMooch wishlist but ... I think I'm gonna go check Half.com.
I've not finished working through the list you give me when we were on the Beta Collections EtherPad!

Brief synopsis:
* Hard Sci-Fi/Cyberpunk
* No magic/non-possible tech (with exceptions) - can't violate known physics
* Near Future - social/political ramifications of tech/informatics
* LIKE Golden Age SF - Heinlein/Asimov + OSC/Vernor Vinge/ Neal Stephenson
* DON'T like PKD/Ray Bradbury (except F451)
* Favorite SF - The Moon is a Harsh Mistress by RAH

I'm going to flesh out my "favorites" collection just to solicit recommendations from suggestors (like you)!

The one I didn't write down was what you recommended from Charles Stross - I wasn't terminally impressed with Singularity Sky - many good ideas not fully fleshed out (like Heinlein's For Us the Living).

Spousal Unit and I just read Altered Carbon and Broken Angels by Richard K. Morgan - very impressed with the first, meh on the second.
I thought of you this morning on the way to work!

I had posted in this thread:
http://www.librarything.com/topic/68606

...and then, while I was driving, I thought to myself, "If they ever do implement this feature I SOOO need to get infiniteletters to "friend" me!"

You could set up a book recommending service!
Thank you so much for being my angel again - I really can't tell you how much I appreciate it, but please know that I do!!!
"CakeorDeath," you mean. (You know what it's from, yes?) Perhaps so, but I do keep feeling that it's not "fair" to include books that I don't/didn't actually possess.

I'm afraid that I'm sufficiently foggy and froggy to need to ask your name. Sad, yes?
Thank you for the Mayflower book!
And yes, my reading goes through kicks, as you say. Mountaineering (though that one is pretty permanent), Phil Rickman books, English monarchs, and now maybe Chinese history. ;)
Thanks for the info about combining accounts, but I already contacted Abby last month. The software isn't working right now (presumably because they changed the database). I'm sure I'll be able to do it sometime; I posted more to see what turned up. Very interesting discussion.
Thank you. It is a neat number 108,810 - easy to remember!
Penny

P.S. The link to make your own map doesn't work. Are there others like it. I like maps.
Okay! It's all yours. I've put it on reserve for you.
For the next Angel box please?
http://www.bookmooch.com/m/detail/067977... Spell of the Sensuous
Thank you!
Should I mooch it on BookMooch?
Thanks!
Thanks!
Is it too late to take you up on your offer? (for books from June list) I have seen you on BookMooch and I think I have several that you might want as well. My name on BookMooch is JudyStorset. I live in Norway but I'm from California.
Some new Age Angel requests: could you get http://www.bookmooch.com/m/detail/079145... Ken Wilber: Thought As Passion and http://www.bookmooch.com/m/detail/188331... Paradigm Wars for me (from the same giver)?
Thank you again!
Another book for the Angel box please?
Youth sentiment: http://www.bookmooch.com/m/detail/015656... Many moons.
Thank you!
I've sent you a message through bookmooch as well, just to say your books have arrived, I'll probably send them in a week or so.
I've even retagged Malcolm and the Cloud Stealer now, darlin' ;P
Thank you very much. I did a brief hunt for a usable Firefox, but the only versions I found were later and would not work with Panther. Now I have the number of the version I need and I can hunt it out. I'm getting a new laptop in October, and passing my current one on to my husband who does not seem to need any newer software. He might like a browser that works with more websites than my Safari does. A good many web designers seem to leave out Safari in their plans, even when my version was new and up-to-date.

I kept Panther because that's the OS my mother has, and she's not really ready to learn a new one.

Thanks for the help.
Hummm... possible reasons for lack of common books....

Too many books... not enough time... that's one theory. Too many physical moves have necessitated that! I mean, really, I love books, why do they have to be sooo heavy? :-)

Adding Colections with the 'Wishlists" to the library.... that opens up a whole new level of opportunity!

Happy Reading!
One more for the Angel box please - http://www.bookmooch.com/m/detail/055313... Mind and Nature: A Necessary Unity.
Thanks!
That's quite a Watchlist! I know a guy who would love to have a conversation with you - he's always talking to me about behavior patterns and theory. He's a lawyer.
Thank you so much for offering to do that for me! I am in no hurry so am happy to wait and see if any come up for mooching to my country, if not I may take you up on your offer - thanks again! x
I'm back! You can list the book - you know the one I'm talking about ;-P
I can imagine keeping a highly wishlisted book reserved but in your inventory isn't much fun ... I'll let you know when I'm back (this message is written on my friends computer in Germany).
But for now, if you could mooch http://bookmooch.com/m/detail/091354616X (Gesture of Balance) for me, please ... Thank you!
Las conjugaciones están bien, considerando que aún quienes hablamos español tendemos a confundirnos (oh, modo subjuntivo, cuánto te odio). Acentos muy bien, pero, uhm... yo me preocuparía un poco más por el género de las cosas, but that -much like the genre of countries/places in french- can only be learn through continuous practice (of coin-tossing :P)
After I started moving books into different collection folders I noticed that my review #s changed. Have you seen that? For instance, your profile says 11 reviews but if you click on 'see reviews' then you only have 10. Mine go from 51 to 27!. I can't get to the etherpad from work, it won't go through the firewall. I left a private msg for CD but haven't heard back.
Thank you for noticing the prequel, but he doesn't want it - it was written 20 years later, and the other three books are a rounded story.
The other books could possibly be interesting, but he'd like to first see if he likes the other ones enough.
I see you have already requested the others - very quick, thank you!
My husband just decided he wants to have this trilogy (again):

The city of gold and lead http://www.bookmooch.com/m/detail/BM1241...
The white mountains http://www.bookmooch.com/m/detail/BM1241...
The pool of fire http://www.bookmooch.com/m/detail/BM1241...

All available from the same guy. I have read the condition notes. Can you Angel them for me? Thanks!
You know - when I looked at the page for Mystery at Castle Steep I was thinking - no description - that's too bad...never occurred to me to add my own! I'll try to tonight....
Ahhh... I thought Power of Five sounded familiar! Have seen publicity about the place for Necropolis.
Now I owe you two debts of gratitude, the first for recommending the Ferling bio, the second for recommending Early Reviewers.

This is truly one of the marvels of Librarything, and of those who, like yourself, use it for the benefit of the rest of us. I will try to better follow your example in the future.
Thank you for your recommendation of the Ferling biography of Geo Washington. I have read other volumes by Ferling, I like him, and I will preorder a copy of this volume.
Mooched!! But alas, user is maybe inactive (300 days) - but at least if they don't respond, I'll vacation them.

Thanks! :)
Oh, I've been stalking you for months now. ;)

Every time you add something that I want, it's already reserved. There was a little chocolate book recently that had me drooling until I hit that "nobody wants to send this to you" message.

I ended up eating a handful of chocolate chips. :(
Took me a bit but I did get a paid account and was quite shocked to find out how many books I actually owned! I never would have imagined I had over 250 but more than 300?! Wow. No wonder I'm poor!

I love how you've set up your library and took a few pointers from your organizational schemes. I really liked how you noted which books were collections, anthologies, etc. and what you could find in each. It may seem a bit obvious now except I had never thought of it before I glanced through your library.

And thanks for the recs. I'll keep them in mind when I need another book fix.
Yeah, I spent about half an hour staring at those pages to try to make sense of them. The $120 *is* for an m-bag.... but via airmail rather than the (no longer available $57) slow (but cheap cheap) boat/surface thang. The airmail m-bag is still a good deal cheaper than just regular airmail (which is _really_ expensive)!

I'm amused/peeved though that I've been gently lusting after a service for several years that they discontinued in 2007!!

I will wait until I have more money and then really go for it. (Have been over-spending recently, so don't "deserve" big boxes of luscious novels anyway!)
Oh, I'm sorry to hear this. She hadn't listed the book as being only A Room with a View. :(
I'll take it if you want it off your hands (since I asked you to mooch it for me in the first place, I should mooch it from you), but if you really do want to keep it, be my guest. I really want the edition with Howards End in it. Just let me know.

Thank you for the heads up, though!
Note: I'm not the fastest intl shipper, as visible from my pending, but I do send them.
My tbr is frighteningly large (as with anyone who has been mooching actively for a while): http://www.librarything.com/catalog/west... so that's not problem at all. I do sometimes get a bit nervous when a lot of books are with the same Angel moocher because sometimes unforeseen things do happen, as with this one: http://bookmooch.com/m/detail/0609608932 But then, lightning doesn't strike twice in the same place.

Thank you for getting the Jaffrey book, as well.
I am very happy to throw some more Angel requests your way.

This one http://bookmooch.com/m/detail/0563213647 just was rejected (and he immediately went from ask first to my country only). I hope it's chunky enough ;-)

BTW, how big is that box?
Thank you so much for mooching the book (Howard's End and A Room With a View) for me! :)
Hi infiniteletters,

A little while ago you helped me recall "The Ukrainian Egg Mystery" on Name That Book...guess what I found today at a used book store?! Best twenty-five cents I spent all day. :) Thanks again for reconnecting me with a little slice of childhood.

Best,
m.
I'm excited to read it!

I was starting to think I might have to curtail my mooching for a bit with so many books coming into the house lately. Lucky for me someone mooched 11 books from me today! Now I can tell my husband the next 11 mooches I make don't count!

Also - I agree with Spinifex. Best angel ever!!
Oh my, you deserve the title of best angel ever! ;)
Yes! Thank you!
Hey! Thanks for stopping by. I'll check out Practical Magic!
Thanks for the comments and links. I'll see how Paksenarrion pans out :-)
No, I haven't read anything by Elizabeth Moon yet. The Deed of Paksenarrion has been recommended a couple times here, so I thought I would try it. Have you read anything by Moon?
No worries, in fact, there was someone else from the angel thread watching and the book was mooched! Thank you!
Thank you! That's very nice of you!

So if I understand correctly, the time zone is something like the Pacific Standard Time (I'm abysmal at time zones)?
$38 including shipping... and it arrived in excelent condition. More than I wanted to spend, but overall not as bad as I though it might have to pay. Worth it, though. One step closer to having the entire arc!
Yep, they're still available. I'll go ahead and list them for you.
Well, if you've already got books to mail to her, I'll let you gofer :-) It's well wishlisted, so I'll read it quick and post it. I'm sure I won't have any difficulty sending it on it's way ;-)

That Churchill quote is good. K'zoo isn't technically a book event. It's one of the two largest Medievalist Conferences in the world (the other's in Leeds in July). I like the sessions and the free (but disgusting) wine at receptions but the exhibition hall is piled with books and books and books and ... All the major academic publishers are there, you get a discount on 'em because it's a conference and if you can hold off that long a lot of them offer another discount the last day so they don't have to tote books back. I haven't been in a couple of years but the last time I came back with over 30 books and I expect I'll do the same again. There are several hard-to-find Loeb's I don't have and Harbard U Press usually has a full set in their booth.

You can read about it here: http://www.wmich.edu/medieval/congress/i...
I don't know *why* I think that sounds like such an excellent idea. It's not like I don't have a sky-high tbr pile. But I love it! :D
Thank you for reading and reviewing House of Brick so promptly. I really appreciate it.

Thanks for letting me know! It's good to hear a strong endorsement. I may have to relent and buy a copy of the Penderwicks. Sigh.

S.
Dear infiniteletters,

Although my idea didn't pan out for the original poster, thank you for coming up with "The Ukrainian Egg Mystery" over on Name That Book. That was exactly the book I was thinking of -- I probably got a few of the details wrong, but I've been thinking about it all day. And now I find out it's a series! Must go track them down.

Best,
m.
Interesting: 8 out of the last 10 books I've added to my bookmooch wishlist are already on yours! :)
Yup! I got a copy from the author's publicist. It was fantastic. She's super sassy and fun.
Thanks for the tip about bookmooching!
Never mind about 'Women' these things happen!
Thanks for the recommendations! I will TBR Yolen's The Devil's Arthmetic and Heinlein's I Will Fear No Evil.
Hi infiniteletters,

There's been a recent mini-outbreak of haiku on the topic of "Waiting for Collections" -- I thought, since you contributed a haiku in the past, you might want to join in the fun... Check out this thread and, of course, the LibraryThing Haikus page.

Silent
Questory is yours!
Now that's what I'm tawkin' bout! Thanks!
Yes, the Spiderwicks are still available. I'll list them today and reserve for you!
Isn't it sad? There needs to be more libraries. Maybe that would be a good platform for politicians!
I've already started it and rereading it is making me *very* happy.
Awesome! I need to get with one of those! With the economy they way it is, I haven't been able to find any library work. Sad.
Hope you feel better soon!

Thank you for letting me know it made it safely.
I put this on the angel thread as well but thought I would add it here

Just so you know, Teazle is my mum so if you want to send all our books together in one package to either address, that would be fine if it makes it easier/cheaper for you.
Thanks for looking around for the Batman title for me, infiniteletters. I've checked every online source for books I could think of, hoping to find a copy for a reasonable price, but refuse to buy any book for more than a dollar per page!

I'll just have to keep hoping for the generosity (or ignorance? haha, kidding) of some kind Moocher!

I sure wish they'd issue a re-print. I'm not picky about first editions in most cases.

~Tim

P.S. Love your division rules...
Hi, infiniteletters,
Congrats on winning the House of Brick giveaway copy! Thank you for your interest; I intrust all my Sweetwater friends into your care...

Thanks for letting me know you received Modern Magic :-) It was a good story, I hope you enjoy it. No rush on the manga list. Anything you offer whenever you offer it is an unexpected bonus.
I'm trying to determine if your Science Fiction Stories by Richard Elam is the same as my Super Science Stories. Would you be willing to dig yours out and compare story titles?

Well, I would be but unfortunately you have caught me in a tagging error. I apparently failed to update my BookMooch tags on this one when it got mooched. I could email the guy who mooched it from me (he is pretty active on BM) and ask about the contents (but that doesn't actually get you the book if they are different - unless he re-lists it).

I do know that the copy that I had noted on the cover "Original Title: Teen-Age Science Fiction Stories"

The information on this page:
http://www.philsp.com/homeville/ISFAC/s9...
Indicates that the contents would have included:

By Jupiter
The Day the Flag Fell
Hands Across the Deep
The Iron Moon
Lunar Trap
Project Ocean Floor
Red Sands
Sol's Little Brother
The Strange Men
Venusway
What Time Is It?

So I think they are/were different.
Unfortunately, I no longer have the book. I tend to read a book and pass it on to the Friends' book sale at my library. I do remember, especially after having reviewed my review, that the core of the stories were about a couple of the same characters who went up the ranks in some service throughout the galaxy, going to places like the Moon, Mercury, Pluto, etc., as I said - kind of planet-hopping like people right now get on a plane and hop around the world city to city. If several of your stories of this, then it's he same book. I believe that the first and last stories are unrelated. Hope this helps.
Thank you for your prompt reply! I like the "Angel Network" answer - I could enter an Angel entry and reserve it for her and not break anyone else's heart. I wasn't thrilled with the "smooching" option but the "Why do I get notifications when the book is reserved?" crowd can be fairly grumpy/despondent at times.
I've added some BookMooching related tags to the "Tag Decoder" section of my profile in case you're interested.

On a different matter: I just mooched a book for an LTer who needed a US to Australia angel. This is my first shot at "angel"ing - I am under the impression that you do this fairly frequently and I am curious as to how you make sure that you keep all your "angel" transactions straight. (I "friended" them on BM and sent an e-mail stating that I had mooched a book for them that they had requested on LT. I also wrote the info on an index card. They sent me a lovely little email which I will leave in my inbox until the transaction is DONE.)

I just don't want to lose track of who is expecting what if I get into this. My plan was to relist the book with a reserve for THEM - but will this exacerbate the "I got an email that my wishlisted book was available but it was reserved for someone else when I checked." problem? Should I just ask for their address and request that they smooch me the points so as not to disappoint the others? (Why do I think of these nuances AFTER I am already committed...?)
Just thought I'd say hi, because it seems like every time I wishlist a book on bookmooch, you've wishlisted it too:) great minds think alike.
Rubbah
I made an oopsie -- Oscar isn't available (hubby's book) -- but I'll still send Water for Elephants if you like.
Oh, Oscar's Book is in fair to good condition, the covers are a little beat up but the insides are just fine.
All the sci-fi belongs to my husband, so I'm not allowed to trade those away!

We actually recently went through our books and trimmed down (a local used store gives us credit!).

If any of these sound interesting to you, you can have any or all:

An Acceptable Time by Madeline L'Engle (paperback, good condition, some wear)

Troubling a Star by Madeline L'Engle (paperback, good condition, some wear)

Oscar's Book -- A Little Golden Book -- by Jeffrey Moss Pictures by Michael Gross (picture book, hardcover)

Water for Elephants by Sara Gruen (paperback, nearly new)
re: Ghostly Business

That description sounds fine. I'm interested in it just for a read, not as a collectors item, so I'd certainly pay for postage if you like. If not, I understand -- I saw a hardcover being offered at amazon for quite a bit. You may want to see if you can make a little off it!
Thank you!
*grin* You ARE quick off the mark! I'll keep you in mind, but my sister has first claim on the extra Horizon - she requested it from ER too, but wasn't successful.
Thank you for Angeling Perception as well!
I'm happy to send it along. Just let me know where to send it to.
Whatever is best for you I am happy with, thank you!
Thank you - done it!
Sue
Hi infiniteletters,

Just a quick message to let you know that 'Steal the Dragon' has arrived and is waiting for your mooch- enjoy!
Wow, thank you :D ! I will not spend my 2 points on another book!
I've never seen an ARC so I'm kind of curious to see what it looks like. Of course, if I put it back on Bookmooch I'll reserve it for you :)
Hello. I tried editing the book info to include US and wasn't able to. I will be making some adjustments soon and will let you know. Thanks.
Hiya infiniteletters!

On 1/29 you commented on my profile:
I can recommend some good books on learning styles if you’re interested in the topic (vs. just using it for your own ends).:)

Yes! I am interested in this (from a layperson's not an educator's perspective). Sorry, it took a few days for me to get back to you - part of the time was spent trying to figure out how you knew that this would be of interest to me...(Did I post something in a thread? Can you tell by the books that I own? Was this comment actually intended for someone else and just HAPPENED to also apply to me?)

This is a topic that often comes up when I am having a discussion with my spouse - one will be explaining something to the other and we will discover that the "explainer" is explaining things in a way that makes the most sense to THEM - but the "explainee" thinks about things differently and so has to translate into a system that makes the most sense for them - very hard to do when you are learning something new.

An example: we were discussing odds/ratios/percentages (as it applies to poker hands - but that doesn't matter). My spouse is a "numbers" person and thinks in terms of "odds" where as I am a visual person and think in terms of "percent" (which is easy for me to visualize). So they would be explaining that something had a "4 to 1" chance of winning and I have to convert that to "1 in 5" and then to "20%" which I can visualise as "XXX-OOO-OOO-OOO-OOO" (think of a bar graph - the X is red the O is blue)...once we discovered that I was spending all this effort converting and would miss what they were ACTUALLY talking about we came up with the rule that the person who UNDERSTANDS the thing has to "pre-convert" to the learners best concept - things go alot smoother now...
Hi, thanks for your observation. I'm still learning LT, looking around, figuring out what works for others. Your library is interesting. I like your division rules.

My library is still private, while I'm adjusting tags and comments, etc. It will go public when things settle into place a little better. It's a little strange in some ways, in that it contains hundreds of hand-me-down books from our ancestral families. Most would be antiquarian by today's standards. Stay tuned.
My McCaffrey pile is actually smaller than it should be (I'm not sure if this is a positive or a negative) because I donated a whole bunch of books to my school's SF&F club freshman year. Naturally I neglected to note down what any of them were, but it was mostly my Anne McCaffrey.

I'm glad I finished my Pratchett pile - as with several other favorite authors, I've mostly grabbed what I could when I could, and half the time I can't remember which books I have.
Yeah, was sorta expecting a delay on the Anger book. No problem. Thanks for Angeling!
That'd be great!

And as you can guess, there is no rush at all.... so whenever you get enough points.

Cheers
Cushla
Maybe I will open my children's book collection. I am a little scared to, given how some of these people are reacting to someone's tag system. Maybe only opening certain collections will be a part of the new collection feature.
Ha! Oh, how I wish it was! Me = book magnet!
Always a good excuse to actually buy a book (ah, I remember the days when I bought new books all the time, then I got hooked on BookMooch and now I feel slightly guilty every time I cross Borders' threshold ... but new books smell so-oo good!) ;)
Thanks for the recommendation - that's another one for the wishlist!
Claire
Hey,
A couple weeks ago I was adding inventory to bookmooch and entered something you had on your wishlist. I can't remember what it is right now, but whatever it is, it's reserved for you. I would tell you what it is, but there's no way of knowing on BM which books in your inventory are reserved. (At least not as far as I can tell.) Anyhow, just letting you know.
~Lily
I posted it on BM & reserved it! Go for it & enjoy! Mark
Does that mean you would like it? If so, do I add to my inventory and then reserve it? Is your username the same?
Hello
I think that I will wait until next week and check to see if that book owner is active!
Thanks
Cyrel
Hello
Thank you for your kind offer to be a bookmooch angel for the two books that I want. Yesterday, one of the book owners emailed me an apology as her internet was down. She is going to send me the book. The other book owner has not been on Bookmooch for a while so I hesitate to deal with her until I see that she is more active on Bookmooch. I will contact you if I see that the book is moochable from another owner.
Happy New Year!
Cyrel
I can weigh those books and see how much they would cost to ship by media mail. What do you have to offer me? I like fashion, costume history, textiles, biology, history, knitting .... My cookbook shelf is full.
Hi! Sorry it's taken me so long to respond, things have been a little crazy around here! Do you have any good cozy mystery series? I could do with some easy reading in the new year! I still have Alex and Me and do I remember that you had some interest in We Bought a Zoo? I've finished it and it's available now too. I'm a sucker for good animal books too if you have any of those! Hope you had a good Christmas!
I haven't seen any e-mail from you--are you still interested? Anyway, a couple of those books are no longer available--the Madhur Jaffrey cookbook just got sent to a friend, and I'm hanging on to the Claudia Roden for a while until I see how it compares to The New Book of Middle Eastern Food.

I think one of the Bulfinch books has some kind of printing error--some pages might be missing--but I couldn't find it when I looked, so I can't guarantee their condition. Pasta, Pizza and Risotto is in perfect condition because I never used it (it was a gift). It's the biggest one, hardcover, over 450 pages. Mapping Human History is a medium-sized h/c, and I think The Potao is a p/b.

How the West Was Worn is fairly slim.

What do you think of BookMooch? When I looked at it, it seemed that everyone was passing around mass-market paperbacks. I don't have many of those, and I hardly ever buy them these days. I also found the site hard to navigate.
oh, I think 2 copies are enough for now ... thanks anyway :)
Ooh! This makes me happy.

I typed a reply to you, but it's adrift in the ether somewhere, so please drop me a line at Iafuerst(at)morcopy.com and I will tell you about the books
Forgot. The big toe is used to abuse. I'm always stubbing it on book boxes.

Clara
Holiday taste testing is really a chore (hee-hee). My favorite is butter cream icing, tho' I'm not as bad as my one sister. She just buys the pre-made frosting in the cans and will sit and eat the whole thing!. I just have several tastes while making the frosting and, of course, you must lick your fingers each time you frost a cookie and get a little over the edge onto the fingers. : D

The neighbor is renting some in limbo (I hope forever) land across from us. The pond has about 4 to 5 inches of ice on it and can support several horses on it at one time. Until this last spate of cold weather and some snow they were able to break it by themselves but it's just too thick for them now. I use a huge pry bar. It's iron and about 5 feet long and must weigh at least 20 or more pounds. It's got a nice wedge shaped edge that really breaks the ice. The neighbor is preggie and doesn't need the worry.

Clara
The rewrite of Twelve Dancing Princesses is called "The Princesses Have a Ball." I think the author is Teresa Bateman.
I'm the biggest klutz. Last time I tried that I dropped several hard covers, one of which made a three-point landing on my big toe. I'm counting on the ice breaking I'm doing on the pond across the road for my neighbors horses to get rid of all these extra pounds from the pies and cookies (and fudge). It's really bad since whenever I start frosting the cookies I always end up having a spoonful of frosting just for myself.
Too Late! Just gained at least 5 pounds!

Clara
I've got a pending list but nothing added yet. I'm hoping to update my wishlist and add more books after the new year. My computer's in the kitchen and it keeps getting buried in mixer's, food gadgets and cookies or pies cooling. Right now I'm trying not to eat all the sugar cookies. : )

Clara
They're on the way directly to you. Happy Holiday Reading!

Clara
Would love it.

Clara
Woops didnt see that
German is not much good to me. Thanks anyway

Pete
Thanks but I an not after the book now.Ridgeway Girl read my post and has the book and I will be mooching it off her when she finishes it,Thanks for the offer.
You could get me this if you like http://www.bookmooch.com/m/detail/345387... Been after it for ages.

Have a good christmas

Pete
*Grins* - Yeah, I've been fighting to avoid getting sucked into the BPAL phenomenon for a few years now (being broke helps.)

But I was thinking more like a place where you could go to the librarian and say okay, I need the scent of durian, or moon dust, or 1974 shiraz, and the librarian could get it for you from the stacks. :D Or you could check out the novel-length scent-stories "A Paris Day in Springtime, 1894" or "Murder In A Gentleman's Club" or, you know, "Hot Lesbian Shower Sex", and then take it home and spend an evening immersed in it.

That would be the best library ever.
Thanks for letting me know!
You're everywhere! Appropriate; it's in keeping with the infinity theme.
I snugged an early reviewer book! Woo-hoo! Just to be an early reviewer is an honor! I am happy! Now to read it!
I love Goodwill, etc - great for record-hunting, too! - but I hadn't thought about garage sales. Thank you! And thanks for the link to the top wishlisted books, too. I'm sure that will be really helpful!

Happy Solstice / Hanukkah / Christmas / Winter Insanity / insert upcoming holiday of choice here!
I'd be impressed if you were interested in my inventory, as I have only 11 books in it, and even more impressed if you were interested in my library, as I have included it in its entirety nowhere! (I guess you mean BM inventory - I'm uninterested in it too, as a matter of fact - and LT library, but you know.) Thank you so much for your note. I buy all my books used already, because I refuse to spend more than $3 on a book when I could spend it on farfalle instead (I am a starving student). My problem is that when I walk into an used bookstore, I see so many things that I want to buy for myself already! And I don't feel completely right buying a book I don't want to read myself for BookMooch, mostly because I am very bad at selecting books other people would want to read but that I wouldn't want myself. Such is my dilemma!
thank you infiniteletters, you replied to my post october 30th giving me the name of a ken grimwood book "replay" i just finished reading it and it was even better than I remembered it 20 years ago. thanks again, shara

I'll probably have to delay these books for two to three weeks because of the high volume of mooches. I hope you don't mind.

And of course, since it's a 2 for 1, I'll charity half your points back.
Hi I have reserved Two Books for you to be sent to libreria04... I'll e-mail you her address. Thank you so much!
You mentioned you can send a book to the Philippines? If you can, I can reserve these two Paperbacks for you so you can send them?
Oh definitely! I am trying to find books in good condition so I can give them as Christmas presents, as this year money is pretty tight. So I thank you very much for even answering! :)
Welcome to Unique Library Thing Book Group! I like your Division rule break out. I use a slightly different usage of omnibus Omnibus, volume ... or of works related in interest or theme.
Hey, thanks for the recommendation of "I Leap Over the Wall." I'll put it on my TBR list.

I found this short review of "I Leap Over the Wall" from 1950, in case you're interested:

http://www.time.com/time/magazine/articl...

When I was a kid, our neighbor's daughter, an ex nun, came to stay with her mother for about a year. This would have been late 1960s. She got a job teaching at the Catholic school across the street from us. At that time, the Church was running short of nuns, though the Dominican sisters still ran the school and handled catechism.

I was quite obsessed with her for awhile, sorta like Scout and Boo Radley. I remember she often wore yellow, which my mother said not everyone could carry off. I was forbidden to discuss the convent with her. My mother told not even to say the word "nun" around her.

So I made up all sorts of fevered adolescent backstories for her, imagined what her life might have been like working with the Dominicans, and invented myriad adventures for her wearing her yellow sweater to which there was always a happy ending.
Do you have any adult books? General fiction or mystery would be great! I have your book ready to go, I will get it in the mail tomorrow...thanks:)
I checked out your bookmooch list, but I didn't really see anything. I read a lot of mystery, if you have anything. If not, it is fine, I will just send you the book. Send me your address & I will get it in the mail tomorrow...thanks:)
Great, it is a good & fun read. Just send me your address. Anything you have you want to trade for? Let me know...
thanks for the link to bookmooch. i have a very small personal library so i don't really have lot of stuff people would want. and i think the only thing i have i would willing to part with is the arc for [Any Given Doomsday]. there seem to be copies available at amazon for less than dollor - that's probably what i will buy. if i buy, because first i am going to go through various libraries. odds are they won't have it but i am still going to look so . . .
Unthinkable is yours if you PM me your mailing address.
Good idea, am doing it as we speak! Thanks for getting those books for me too - I really appreciate it!
Did you get those books for me, because your comment was kinda vague...
Thanks anyway!
Oh, boy ~ just what I need, another series to put on my TBR list! lol Thanks for the tip on the Tales of the Sazi series.

Just out of curiosity, do you have a favorite amongst them?
Thanks for grabbing "Play It As It Lays" instead - you sure are quick, as that hasn't been on my wish list all that long!
Thanks also for doing this for me.
Hi. Your recommendation of Skin Hunger for Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows was great. I would never have found it by myself and I really enjoyed the differentness of it! Thanks.
wow thanks for offering to be an angel for me :) I am actually wanting two at the moment that wont post out of the US, so I will look around for three and then email you? Im not sure how it works, do you mooch the books for me and then I mooch them from you? its really appreciated, thanks so much!
Thanks for being willing to do this. I wanted to make sure you didn't have a problem wiht the request coming from the book owner. I did that just a bit ago, then found the person I was mooching for had told her to never mind. Since the moocher and I do a fair amount of trading, it turned out okay, but now I would be hesitant to mooch without communicating with the moocher. Did that make sense?
Anyway, here's the list of books, all reserved for you. I can send you a copy of the e-mail chain between Esther and me if you want.
Dark Defender by Alexis Morgan
Midnight Rising by Lara Adrian
Jane's Warlord by Angela Knight

Plus, I'll throw in a book on your wishlist for free! That's right, I'll send your point back to you as a thank you on Esther's behalf (she doesn't have enough points to smooch you). I have Christina Dodd's Some Enchanted Evening and Balzac and the Little Chinese Seamstress by Dai Sijie.
Thanks!
Bah! I had to start somewhere!!! But now, I am a lifetime member.
I plan to get the sequel this weekend. I don't know if I'll be able to start it or not. I will let you know when I get into it.
Thank you, when I have some spare time I will start to tackle it!
Never mind about the book, I'm just happy that you tried to help!

As for adding my books on here I am a bit intimidated by it as I have so many... eeeeek!
Thanks for recommending The Decoy Princess. I am about half-way through it and enjoying it very much!
Heck, we'd have more shared if all MY books were up, as well :), although I don't think I've got quite the library you do.
Thank you for forwarding my interest in Charles De Lint books to Heyjude.
Hi,
The 13th Reality is in the mail. Happy reading

Carrie
It's posted on BM now, so go mooch The Good Thief from me!
I'll go post The Book Thief to you now and mail it to you when I'm done!
I'll send The Good Thief to you on BookMooch when I'm done. What is your screen name there? Post it on your wishlist on BookMooch so you will get the email as soon as I finish The Good Theif and post it there.
I liked your recommendation of The Last of the Really Great Whangdoodles for The Phantom Tollbooth.
hi!

Sorry, didn't mean to ignore your note.. my daughter has been home on a visit and I spent every minute with her that I could.
Sure! I am always interested in recs on books.. thank you!

kath
Will do it now and reserve for you.
Hi,
Leave me your name address in a PM and I will get the 13th Reality in the mail early next week. I hope you enjoy it.

Carrie
Thanks for the encouragement!

I'll look into posting an excerpt on the books page too. Good idea.

All best,

Hannah
I'll list it here as promised until you let me know for sure. I'll put condition notes in the comment column and it will be under a tag Promised. Also have The People: No Different Flesh by Zenna Henderson, 0380015064
Hi, I found a copy in paperback of Zenna Henderson's The Anything Box 0380017458. I think you have it wishlisted. Would you like first chance at it? I couldn't mail it until the 6th tho'.
I just posted this in 'A Book Search Among Friends,' but I thought I'd mention you directly because I noticed you have this wishlisted...

I just posted "The Dangerous Joy of Dr. Sex" on BookMooch and reserved it for friends only for 3 days. Send me a friend request over there if you'd like it, or let me know and I'll change the reservation for you.
Yeah. I loved that book when I was younger. I still remember it well, and it really is a great book.
After reader my review of "Water: The Fate of our Most Precious Resource" by Marq de Villiers you wrote:

"Check out Blue Planet Run for a new view on Water. :)"

I looked at the website for the book and reviews for it on Amazon. I see you don't own it, so you must have seen it somewhere. I'd love to see it. I'll try to interlibrary loan it from CSU San Diego, one of the sister universities in our system. The pictures sound awesome...but, of course, the topic is dismal and alarming.

I'd like to get a copy of the book to show to our discussion group.

Thanks for suggesting it.

Barbara
Actually, I only learned about the Cat Wizards series today while I was looking around here (though I may have known about it before and forgot), so I would need to get the other two books first.
Ah, thanks. Now that I know about it, it's on my wishlist, too. ;p
Hi, I noticed that you had the 9th book of the Young Wizards series by Diane Duane in your library. I also noticed that you were the only one who had it. So, is it really out, or is there something else going on?
Odd. I didn't get a 'new comment' notification on your message or I would have responded earlier. If when you finish it you truly don't want to keep it, I'd love to read it. No hurry, I've got 40+ books to read right now and I won't get any reading done in Nov (NaNoWriMo). I appreciate the offer - have a wonderful day!
Hey! I noticed you snagged Jennifer Government on BookMooch. Joe also emailed me but I wasn't quick enough. He said it wasn't very good. I'd be interested in hearing what you think of it. Have a great week!
Done. Poke! It's an international mooch though since I'm in Canada, so if you don't want to spend the points on it, I for reals can send it for none.
Hi, I saw your name on the BookMooch wishlist for The White Mary - did you still want a copy? I ended up with two copies (I really only need to read one!). I'd be happy to send the other to you, points-free, if you like.
I picked up the Susan Cooper at a library sale when the all the movie hype was going on. I just haven't collected the others yet. I'll list Biblioholism and reserve it for you. Cheers.
I read all the Danny Dunn books too!
Uh, THANK YOU!

p.s. more dooooooooom?
Hi, thanks for the recommendation. I've actually read this book. There are a few interesting theories in there...
Thanks for your comment! I see this "member recommendations" feature as a potentially addictive activity . . .

:-)
Thank you so much for making recommendations for my favorite books. I look forward to trying them out.
I saw your recommendation of [The Last of the Really Grate Whangdoodles] for [The Phantom Tollbooth]. I've read both and think that's a good recommendation. Thanks for making it, and I hope I see other recommendations of yours toward books that I haven't yet read.
Poking you to point out that I have added another section to my Tag Decoder - as well as prettied it up a bit (what with links and some bold, and italics and whatnot). Next section is likely to be science fiction subgenres, although that may be a bit of a headache and require me to re-read the 482 books I have tagged "sci-fi" (and likely the 105 books I have tagged "fantasy") -- oh, what a hardship! Guess I better get to reading >grin
But thank you for the offer, though! Lois
Aha! I see why you wanted my BookMooch userid (it's kayhardtmann). Unfortunately, not because you want my two despised David Guterson novels.

However did we live without BookMooch and Librarything? And to think computers were to spell the death of the printed word.
Just checking to see if you are around. I'd like for you to test something for me if you are still using that antiquated version of Safari. :)
Love the map tool! We share some favorite authors, and I'm definitely going to have to take a look at a few of the books you've 5 starred. Thanks for sharing.
Baen is a wonderful suggestion, Thanks! I'll be certain to sed them an early reveiwers letter.
Send your mailing address to stringcat3@yahoo.com and I'll get Master of the Sea out to you.
What a great list! Thanks so much. I went through and marked the books we have here in the library, and found a respectable number. But what I REALLY liked were the familiar authors with unfamiliar titles. I like new people, but I also like finding new facets to authors I already know. Thanks again. Mary Lou
re: authors. Nope, go for it!
YA, especially. Fantasy is always popular. So is historical and scifi. Horror is too, but I don't like it personally. I try not to let that get in the way of purchasing for my students.
Hi. I'm always looking for good female leads, for myself and my students. Suggestions are welcome. Thanks for offering! Mary Lou
Yes, well, Mercedes Lackey's writing style sort of makes me want to poke my eyes out, so I don't remember much about Need.

I did read that anthology, and that's one of the stories I liked, I think. As I recall, I liked half the stories and wasn't all that fond of the rest. But my favorite McKinley book is Sunshine, no question.
Haha, no, I was talking about Gounturan from Robin McKinley's Damar books.
The translator of my copy of The Iliad is Alexander Pope.
Re. O'Donohoe - I read the 2nd or 3rd one many years ago, and have only vague memories of it. When I entered the 1st one in my stack, I decided to run through 'em again.

When I look at your recent additions, I keep thinking "Ooo I have that!" and "Wait, you haven't read that yet? Read it now! Now now now now now!" (Of course, those apply to my own books too.)

:D Yeah, entering all these is reminding me that I need to take the time to read some of the treasures I already have, as well as picking up new ones. And I've still got quite a few boxes yet to scan!
LOL, she sent a message to me 23 minutes before you did, saying she'd gotten my check and upgraded my account, so I'm set.

Re the strange order - right now much of my library is stored in boxes, with minimal ordering (result of several moves and my own laziness). So, I'd grab a box, bring it to the computer, scan it in, take it back to the library (aka the extra bedroom that, with shelves, might someday be worthy of the name "library"). Now that my booklist is uncapped, I'll be scanning the rest, which might fill in some of the gaps. (But no promises - it really is eclectic!)

Well, we're going to be sharing at least in the 20 range, if not more, out of your current 200. And that's from the first page. :)

Many more than that, once my account is upgraded (please hurry, USPS!). I like your division rules, by the way, may have to "borrow" parts of them.
I DO catalogue the separate novels in Omnibus as inclusions - which is why I made the distiction. I missed "Methuselah's Children" because I used to have (two separate) stand alone copies of it so I forgot that it was included in TPTT - thanks for pointing it out. Because it contains both short stories and works published individually TPTT now carries BOTH the 'collection' and 'omnibus' tags.

I made the distinction so that if they came up with a way to handle short stories I could identify which items contained as-yet-uncatalogued works. I don't know if you can see it but in the "comments" for any work with the 'omnibus' tag I write "Includes: list of works" and in the "comments" for any work with the 'inclusion' tag I write "Included In: name of omnibus work" - so I have my own internal cross-reference.
HEY! you stole my division rules!....COOOL!
That's why you need this book: http://www.librarything.com/work/91944
It doesn't make AACR2 "fun", but it does make as palitable as possible.
Hello, fellow librarian! As a cataloger I dig your division rules.
