About meI am married to a terrific husband, and we have a beautiful daughter who is four years old, and I'm also expecting again, this time twins due in Feb. 2010! I am now a fourth grade teacher, after teaching first grade for 4 years. We live in East Tennessee just a couple of hours away from where my husband and I both grew up.

About my libraryThe biggest project was entering all the books I keep at my school in my classroom library, but I am so glad I did! As my daughter gets older, I will probably put in her books too, especially as I bring my classroom books home for her to read, I can just change the tag! I finally finished entering in all my daughter's books here at home, and separating out her baby board books into the guest room now that she's a preschooler.
I have finally found some shelves that work really well for *almost* all of my books! They are actually DVD/CD storage shelves, but paperbacks (the majority of my collection) fit just perfectly! There are still about 30-40 that don't fit on the two cases we got, but I'm either going to put some older, not recently read books into storage boxes, or *gasp* take them for trade-in at the used book store.

I just got my SantaThing gift in the mail - thank you so much! Your choices were wonderful. Of course I wanted Nation because it is on my wishlist, but I was amazed when I saw that you had chosen "Beneath a Marble Sky." It wasn't on my wish list, but it should have been, because I have been wanting it for a while. I read an awesome review of it, and evidently forgot to write it down on my wish list. I'm so glad you thought of it!
I hope you have a wonderful Christmas!

My boys (and their girlfriends, dogs, and cats) are here now and we have had a wonderful time! They are both leaving to go to their girlfriends' homes tomorrow. I'll miss them, but I had them all Thanksgiving and they've been here since Saturday. I'll see them again before I have to go back to school so I'm not complaining. It's been an amazing Christmas!
I hope you and your family have a wonderful Christmas! Can we see pics on Flickr? :)
Talk to you soon!

Where to stay? Hmmmm. I have a couple of thoughts running through my head. First, driving into Atlanta is supposed to be a HUGE issue this weekend because of construction. My husband drives through every day, and he said there have been signs up telling people to avoid downtown on Labor Day weekend for a couple of weeks now. Even though I avoid Atlanta like the plague, I can get there without using the freeway system, so I'm not terribly concerned. For someone coming into town not familiar with the area, it could be a pain.
My first reaction, therefore, was to tell you to stay on the east side of Atlanta, then perhaps you, Cindy, and I could go together. My only concern is that parts of the eastern side of Metro Atlanta aren't places you want to stay. Some of the hotels around Conyers tend to attract the pay-by-the-week illegal immigrants since we have a fairly large Mexican population in the area. There is a Ramada Inn here; I would think they would be less likely to tolerate that. Oh, I forgot! Behind the Cracker Barrel is a La Quinta Inn that looks nice. There's also a Jameson Inn behind the Bruster's Ice Cream store. (I know where to eat, at least!) In Lithonia, the next town closer to Atlanta, there is a new mall with several new hotels around it. The mall is Stonecrest. There's an Amerisuites, a Hyatt, and a Hilton Garden Inn, I know. Both Conyers and Lithonia are easy to get to by taking I-285 around and Atlanta and heading east on I-20. Lithonia is about 10 miles outside the perimeter (maybe? I am no good at distances!), and Conyers is about 5 miles or so east of that. The hotels I've mentioned in both places are right off the interstate.
I wish I had a big enough house just to tell you to hop on over here, but poor Cindy is going to have to sleep on the couch as it is. I have floor space available, plus a couch in the living room. I considered running my 18-year old out of his bed, but he has a loft in his room, and I figured no one would want to sleep a couple of feet from the ceiling. He likes it, but I figure it's a guy thing.
Let us know what you do. If you've been talking to Cindy, then you may already have plans. Again, I'm sorry it took so long to return your message. I'll check LT today while I'm at work, to see if you need anything else. LT still makes it through my school's filter, at least for the time being. I figure it's only a matter of time until they put that off-limits too.

I put your email down to get a $5 coupon from Cafe Press, in case you haven't ordered your dragon shirt yet. I hope you don't mind! It will save you the shipping charge, at any rate.

Thank You!! I'm so glad your daughter liked the gingerbread man! I love all the little graphics you can find out on the 'net. You check out some of the party threads on the Hogwarts Express group for more. I have a son who just turned 3 and he also likes to look at the graphics that get put on sometimes 8) See you around LT!

Wonderful.
I guess some of those books won't be easy to get hold of in the UK.

GGK has a series that is "Authorian" a take-off on the King Arthur legend - I read it several years back. It is called the Finovar Tapestry (spelling??). The first book is SUMMERTREE. As I recall, it was good. One of those stories where the characters are from the real world and get transported by magic into another world. The way the magic works and the mythological undertones are really excellent - magic as a natural force. The cover art is spectacular! It comes in a format that is an oversized paperback (that's my next-to-favorite format - hardback is always best if I can afford it!) If you can, I would suggest get the first book from the library and see if you like it.
I have another book of his that I started to read and haven't had a chance to really get into it. It is set in Rome. That's one of the symptoms of being book obsessed! I've stacks of books around that I am "reading." I always manage to get more to read before I am done with what I have!
My favortie author of all is a lady named Janny Wurts. She has a lot of books out - "The Wars of Light and Shadow" is an epic series that she is currently still writing. The first book is called CURSE OF THE MIST WRAITH. Love it!
Her writing style is unique. Very descriptive and detailed. I find her books force me into a more intense and focused pace. She is one of the authors (like JK Rowling) that I end up buying the hardcovers on everytime - like you, I just can't wait to read it when it comes out!
You should be able to find Janny's books at the library too. She is a member here at LT - found out about this site from Janny's website.
gotto go to work! Take care!

I know what you mean about being surprised by Martin. While I really enjoyed his books, they were often very sad because of what ends up befalling the characters, though it makes for a suspenseful reading. I found his approach to switching point of views to be very appealing and certainly makes it hard to put the book down! He is very good at making characters that seem real, faults and quirks and all. It is going to be interesting to see what happens. I have heard that HBO is going to make the books into a series. That should be interesting.
