Thanks for your note - you're absolutely right - having demolished the conceptual idea of reductionism in the first half of the book, Hofstadter ends up being the ultimate reduictionist by its conclusion - as i mentioned in my note, I hadn't finished reviewing the book at the time. I was massively disappointed - a strange loop indeed!
