About meI live in east London with my partner who goes under the name of i-94 on LibraryThing. No kids, no pets, just lots of books and not enough shelves to put them on.

About my libraryMy library is mainly a mix of women writers, history, women's studies, science fiction, some classics. I tend to avoid the blockbusters.

Hello there, hope you enjoyed your hols.

I've had to input a few things manually; it's easy. Just click on "add the book manually" in "other ways to add" under your list of sources and then fill in as much of the info as you can or want to. I've got at least one without an ISBN so I just left that blank.

R
Hi;
Mark and I have been discussing the possibility of another group read in November and want your input. We have narrowed it down to two books at this point. "The People of the Book" by Geraldine Brooks and "The Thirteenth Tale" by Diane Setterfield. So chat it up with friends or us and let us know if you are up for it and what you think. Probably the same plan as with "Pillars of the Earth" which seemed to work out perfectly for almost all of us.
Think it over and give one of us a shout.
hugs and looking forward to hearing from you,
belva
You're welcome - maybe you'll like it more than I did. Can't believe how long it took to get to you! I posted it from my mum's near Manchester on Tuesday last week.
I've finally finished the Unity Dow so I'll send it on - but I meant you to have it, not borrow it! Um, I wasn't that impressed; see what you think...

R
Hi Char,

If you send me your address I'll pass on the Unity Dow when I'm done, although that might be a while because I'm going quite slowly. I don't know, it's not grabbing me, although it's perfectly readable. It's interesting for what it is rather than because it's great, if you see what I mean.

Have a good weekend!

R
PS I've read that Dutch book that I'd just bought - I don't suggest you rush out to track it down...!
Thanks.
Indeed, many thanks again.
belva
Hi backatcha;
No rush. It will be just such a lovely treat when it does arrive and I know it takes a while to "cross the pond".

Thank you so much for you kindness in sending me the Bolano! What a surprise it was to receive it!

I look forward to reading it when I am released from my Russian exile. I think I will enjoy it, I mean, you got to love a book that begins with: I have been cordially invited to join the visceral realists..

Have you read it? did you enjoy it?
I'm enjoying your thread on Club Read 2009, BTW, although I don't often comment.

Thanks again.
Murr
OK Char, I am touched by your offer. Actually, I hope to read Bolaño in the original of I possibly can - it's the one other language that I can read for pleasure in - though it is proving to be quite a challenge. And if there is any thing I can hep you with - I typically get to the UK, where I know the mail still works, every August - just let me know.
Hello Charlotte! It is extremely kind of both you and Avaland to think of me - I appreciate it! However, The Savage Detectives is the one Bolaño that I have read, so I won't have to put you to such trouble. It's actually published by the government bookshops at the princely price of $0.80! I am on the lookout for others, but I would hope to be able to pick them up somewhere. Thanks for your kindness - is there anything I can do for you? Best wishes Chris
Hey char,

Sorry for the very VERY late reply, we've hardly been at home over Christmas (London with my gran for the big day itself, Wales over the New Year) so I've been neglecting librarything. I'm so glad you liked your books- there was some slight drama waiting for the Jean Rhys to arrive- it reached me on the day I was leaving Cambridge for the holidays, so just in time! I couldn't resist the Precious Bane; I try and get old editions whenever I can so it was an exciting find. You'll have to tell me what Stanley Baldwin's introduction is like...

Hope you had a lovely Christmas,

Rosa
Glad it arrived OK and thank you for catching it on BookCrossing so the other people who've had it can see where it went!
Yes, sure is! I am going to try and get my collection up and running. Probably won't happen until early december.

Kate, xo
Excellent Char! Glad it arrived safely!

Cate
Charlotte,

The Age of Innocence has made it safely across the ocean! Thank you! It looks fantastic. I'm reading another Edith Wharton book right now for the Girlybooks theme read (The Custom of the Country), so this may turn out to be an Edith Wharton month! I'll let you know my thoughts when I finish the book.

Better than receiving a book in the mail? Receiving a surprise book in the mail! Since I thought it had gotten off-course in its international voyage, I hadn't expected the wonderful package. So, it was a double pleasure! Thank you again!!!!

Christina
Good news! The two Viragos you sent arrived today, and they are in lovely condition. Thank you so much, Char!
Let's hope they will still show up. In any case, thank you, Char, for sending them on.

~Deborah
Charlotte, the Viragos haven't arrived yet. I hope they didn't get lost in the mail. :(

Deborah
Yes, please, Charlotte, and thank you very much!
I am glad I am not weird!!!!!!
:-))
Excellent idea! I am sure you will be satisfied with your purchase(s).
If you want to try a GREAT website to buy books (used and new), go to BetterWorld.com
I have been using it since November and VERY happy with it! (No, I don't get any money out of promoting it).
:-))
Hi Char,
I am currently reading it, and enjoying it.
As you might have noticed from my catalogue, I am mostly interested in women writers, but I had never read any travel/exploration related book before.
I came across this one in my favourite used bookshop and grabbed it!
It is very interesting and I will certainly seek some other books related to the subject.

Paola :-))
Do hope you find some things you like. The ones which have ratings are the ones I have read, all the rest are on the rather unwieldy and ever growing to-be-read pile!

Will have a proper flick through yours, too, and probably end up adding many titles to my wish list!

Nice to have met you,
Allie
Hello Char,
Thanks for that, they are definitely going at the front of my reading list. (One day I'm actually going to finish everything on my list, one day...)Sigh.
Hi,

I am not as familiar with 20th century women's history, but a couple books you may be interested in are Gender and Jim Crow by Glenda Gilmore, and Righteous Discontent by Evelyn Higginbotham. They both do a great job of integrating gender and race into their narratives; both deal with the early 20th century.

Charlotte

Hope you don't mind if I exert some voyeurism over your library - it looks so interesting!!!

Karen
A little stress was had by all..but everything fell so beautifully in place,
and now the stressfull part is but a wisp of a memory.
Hi Charlotte,

I'm just returning online after our cross-country move (thank goodness!!) and was delighted to see that my library was of interest to you! I have done the same with your library as we both share (along with Miss Paola and Lois) a love for women's writing lives.

Cate
Hi Charlotte,
Thanks for adding my library to the "interesting ones", which I promptly reciprocated. I also am very interested in women writing, and I will peruse your library with pleasure, certain that I will learn about more exciting books.

Paola :-))
Hi, you have some interesting women's studies book that I don't have! How is the 'Maiden Voyages" book - sounds intriguing. Best, Lois
