About meI am a twenty-something librarian and book lover. I have always loved reading, which is what I do with most of my free time. When I'm not reading, I watch Lost faithfully and enjoy watching sports (football, baseball, and tennis). I have a habit of coming up with odd bits of trivia that no one cares about and obscure words make me ridiculously happy.
I'm always looking for more books to add to my toppling TBR pile and expanding my reading more. See what I'm reading here:
My 2nd 50 Book Challenge thread
My 999 x 2 thread
About my libraryI read and own a lot of young adult and fantasy. I'm a fairly eclectic reader, however, with a fair amount of contemporary fiction, cozy mysteries, and classics thrown into the mix.
About my collections:
"Your library" includes books I actually own.
"To Read" is mostly books that I own and have not read.
"Read But Unowned" is pretty self-explanatory - the date read starts in 2006, when I started keeping track.
"Wishlist" includes books that I've read and want to own.
"Old Books" are a small vintage collection I have, books that were bought merely for their age and not necessarily read or representative of my interests.
"Currently reading" is kept pretty up-to-date with the exception of books that I read too fast to put there in the first place.
"School Books" are books that are in my mental repertoire but read because I was an English major pre-2006 (though I kept a handful that are still in my library).
About my ratings:
I rate based on how well I liked a book; I refuse to make a judgment about a story's innate worth because I recognize the variety of taste in readers, and even how my own mood can affect what I think when I'm reading. That being said, here's what I mean when I say -
1 star - hated it. Probably didn't finish it, which is why it's not in my collections.
2 stars - didn't like it.
2.5 stars - I really don't know if I liked it or not
3 stars - sort of liked it, I guess; or didn't, but admired something about it despite not liking it
4 stars - I liked it alright but it's not outstanding, maybe with some flaws or just didn't hit me right.
4.5 stars - excellent, perhaps a flaw or two, but ultimately a satisfying read, and may or may not be a reread (most of my reads go here).
5 stars - I adore this book OR I would definitely reread this OR Wow. Just...wow
I very rarely finish a book I would rate lower than a 3, and if I read anything 3 or less you will soon find it in my "Previously owned" collection if it isn't already unowned.

...some of the works were getting moved to the page for "Arthur Conan, Sir Doyle" - I thought I was doing OK combining these from the editions page, but is there a way to have the proper author recognized for easier combining?
It is often possible to "float" the preferred author name on a given work but it is tedious. It is particularly difficult to do with an author as large as Doyle but thankfully is not usually necessary. As long as "Arthur Conan, Sir Doyle" has been combined with "Doyle, Sir Arthur Conan" (and therefore all of its variants) - ALL of the works should show on the MAIN author page "Doyle, Arthur Conan." The difficulty lies in that, after a combining from the editions page, you are taken to the combine/separate page for the "author" of that particular "work" - which may be one of the sub-names under the main Doyle page. Although it adds an extra step, I would advise clicking on the author name and then the combine/separate link so that you are taken to the combine/separate page for the MAIN entry. (If this is unclear feel free to leave a comment.)
PS. Don't worry about de-railing the thread over in Combiners! - if the discussion goes on for a while we may suggest moving it to the "Discussion" thread but there's hardly ever any shouting in the "Fix-it" thread - if you have a question you can bet that several other people would also be interested in the answer.

I didn't see Lost on Wednesday night because I had a busy day (mostly travelling) seeing a client yesterday.
So, I saw it last night instead and I think it was certainly worth the wait! The plane landed on the 'Alcatraz' island, as I thought it would, albeit with a crash landing. Maybe they were aiming for the runway. It looks (to me) like they are in the present because the Hydra Station was long deserted. Was it Sun who went with Frank on the third boat? Where did Sayid go? And why didn't the marshal mention she'd lost him? Who was she anyway, and that Caesar guy? I've seen him before somewhere, but can't place him.
I thought the scene between Ben and Locke was amazing, at least until Ben did his deadly deed. Terry O'Quinn and Michael Emerson have a wonderful on-screen chemistry. Good to see Walt again too, but I wonder whether he will go back to the island, like we were pondering.
I loved the reason for Widmore calling Locke 'Jeremy Bentham', a nice nod to philosophy.
Widmore said that Locke had to go back because there is a war coming, and if he didn't the wrong side would win. This doesn't necessarily mean the side that Locke is on - he could be being used as a pawn. Still don't know who's good, bad or evil though.
What did you think?
I read part 5 of the Brothers K on the train yesterday, so I'm catching up slowly, and you're giving me the inspiration to carry on, so thanks :) I ought to go and have a nose in the group too, really...

My theory... which may be way off.
Ellie, who was holding Daniel at gunpoint, is actually his mother, Eloise Hawking. His father is Charles Widmore, which is why he has been sponsoring him, and providing the money to look after that woman he harmed (who was that?). Widmore and Ellie had some sort of relationship on the island, but when the big bust up between Ben and Widmore happened Ellie sided with Ben.
Plausible?
I thought there was something about that guy last week who was threatening Juliet and Sawyer, but I had no idea he'd turn out to be Widmore!
And how sweet that Des named his son after Charlie Pace. Awww :)

Ms Hawking and Daniel (is she his mother?*) have inspired me to reread A Brief History of Time too.
* And is Miles the son of Marvin Candle - the baby shown at the beginning of Ep1? Arghh... and there's Charlotte's parentage...
So many questions without even considering what the 'eck is happening to the island... So what did you think?
