About me37 year old Tennessean, born and bred. Spent 8 years in active Army service as an airborne infantryman. Another 2 in the Reserves wondering why I was in the Reserves. Got a great family and focus on them mostly. I used to be a WWII reenactor in the 1st Waffen SS Division (no, I am not a Nazi). Got burned out on that, sold all my gear and books on WWII to begin collecting custom made medieval helmets from Europe. Yeah, I know, weird.

About my libraryIt varies from ancient military history, to medieval military history, to some misc. military history. Varied right? Technical books on arms and armour, accounts of battles, strategy of battles, a couple of biographies, 1 piece of fiction (Steve Runciman's account of the Crusades, hahahahaha) and general books on medieval military history wrap it up.

"The Hundred Years War, Volume III: Divided Houses" by Jonathan Sumption is out! Just ordered it on Amazon.
Thanks, Poleaxe!

Good to hear from ya :D

Have a *SAFE* and Happy 4th!
Hope you have a Happy 4th too!! Don't shoot any arrows straight up in the air unless you're wearing your armor! ;-)
I'm going for a riverboat cruise and will be watching other people blow things up.
Is the Fourth the day for you to blow off steam? :)
Finished Goodbye, Darkness last night. I really enjoyed it. Thanks again for making it available and taking the time to send it to me.
Poleaxe, I got the book yesterday. Thanks! I've been reading mostly mystery and thriller fiction lately, so this will be a good change. Although I am not particularly knowledgeable, I enjoy reading about WWII.
Poleaxe, you got the right guy. Looking forward to the book.

I see you are in Knoxville - I have some relatives there.
I look forward to it. I didn't even know what a Victoria Cross was until I started doing the obits for the old soldiers. It seems like the few guys who won it were righteous dudes.
Re 'King Edward III': will be read in a decade or two once I get to that point in my to-read pile. I still have quite a few books about Desert Storm yet to read! At this rate, my great-nephews will be reading these rather than me.
I think I have an ancient Roman cookbook that might actually have a cure for plague.
I figured you would appreciate the title of one of my latest acquisitions, "Chicks in Chainmail."
I didn't know there was a prequel. How was it?
Hi Todd, I actually haven't read it yet. I'll definitely move it up on my reading list. Thanks, Steve
Maybe a kitty parachute. I've always wanted my own trebuchet.
Only live cats accepted.
Hey, how did you get all the war medals down on the right?
Exactly. I've been trying to give it away on Bookmooch for some time, but nobody wants it.
The editor gets all the glory. Grant is still alive. They buried his horse in the tomb.
Hi, I've got two of Degrelle's books - "Campaign in Russia" and "Epic: Story of the Waffen-SS", and they're both good. I still need to add "Epic" to LT. There's been several great books come out over the last few years on the foreign volunteers, with even some coming out of the Baltic states. So are you doing medieval warfare re-enactment now? Nice suit of armor in your picture!!
Hi, I agree that "Wenn alle Bruder..." is probably the best photo book on the subject. It'll likely be one of the last books to leave the house due to my interest in the Eastern Front as well as the foreign nationals that fought with the Germans in WWII. But I do appreciate the warning!! :-)
No, sorry--I wasn't in the 187th. Your interests are remarkable. Wish you were near by so I could have you talk to my freshmen Western Civ classes.

Best,

Murph
At first I didn't know what you were talking about. "Helper-thingies?", I mumbled to myself. THEN I saw them waving in the lower right-hand corner.

Thanks for bringing them to my attention. I'll have to go and investigate as I have no idea where they came from.

=============

btw, I'm reading "Joker One" about marines in Iraq. (Yeah, I know, hardly my area.) So far it's an interesting read. I'm learning alot about marines.

And what exactly do they say about you in that book you reviewed?
You need to add your latest review to Amazon. I cannot wait for the follow-on comments!
Well, they do have the jousting...
Au contraire, mon ami. I think it's cool. Makes me want to run off with the Ren Fair folks.
So is that you in your pic? Do tell us the story.
Right back at ya! I celebrate any and all holidays at every available opportunity.
On _Medieval Mercenaries_, I'm glad to hear I'm not the only one. I'm not a medievalist per se (as my huge quantities of Pearl Buck and Foxfires reveal), but I know the period decently well, and I love it in a way; it's extremely frustrating to see random English jerks dragging it through the mud. (That "Brief History of Salt" or whatever it was, and of course "Guns, Germs, and Steel," also come to mind here.)

I think you might enjoy Hans Delbrück, if you're not already familiar with him; and maybe Paddy Griffith, who, though much more English than his name implies, at least takes his subject matter seriously. I'm curious to know what you think of H. John Poole's arguments about modern tactics, too, though he can be awfully sanctimonious at times.

And I'd like to thank you for your service in the Army. It's because of people like you that I can waste my time on LibraryThing...
The author you seek is for 'Glory of Agincourt' is Rosemary Hawley Jarman.
He's back!
Just checked Amazon and nothing on the third Sumption HYW book. Being waiting to add it to the to-read pile.
Is Norman Sicily in your area of interest? In my readings of Byzantine history, the War of the Sicilian Vespers always looms large as suspiciously timely considering the Norman threat to the Empire.
Welcome. We seem to share a modicum of interest in Middle Ages warfare.
