Very funny! It is cute. It might've been risque when it was written, albeit amusing. Now it is simply delightful! The ending was a little too arch for these times but in the 60's when it was written it was probably ground-breaking!
Hello Olivia -

Sorry that I didn't see the friend invite sooner - we just moved across the country and I have fallen behind on LibraryThing. Lovely to meet you!

marie (elfschild's mom)
Sorry, for the delay, i had some problems with the program. Nice to meet you.
thanks for your friendship. please keep in touch!
thanks
Hi Olivia,
Sorry I don't check my LibraryThing often. Glad you like my flickr.
yeah, i do. I'm actually working on a book. But, i am WAY too young to publish a book. But i am still working on it
Hi Olivia,
That was a nice post you put on my profile.
Oh, and abput tthe pic, sorry if i said jane from new moon. it actually Lara croft. This website mixes me up. hahaha
your welcome. I need to read your book. it looks interesting! =)
aww, thanks. Its not much, I havent had much time to update it. :)
Its Jane from New moon! Thanx for the commment. Like your pic too! =)
I am a retired cataloger. I love this site and it helps me keep a handle on my books in a number of ways. Happy to meet you and would enjoy hearing your reasons for subscribing.
Hi! I just saw your question about the H. Rider Haggard book, and I must admit I haven't read it yet. :P
Yeah, I am a pretty huge fan. I've read them all numerous times!
Hi Olivia,

Still unemployed, but a good time to catch up on unread books. Reading right now: The Night Watch by Sarah Waters plus about 10 graphic novels. No Toni Morrison book in my collection yet.
For a strange art project, see www.oneandother.co.uk
Hi Olivia,

I read mostly Young Adult and Juvenile titles because those are the books in my collections (and because I love those collections). I recently read Suicide Notes by Michael Thomas Ford and Cold Skin by Steven Herrick. I really enjoyed both of them. Lots of great angst!
Hi Olivia, I've posted a full review of Beyond: A Solar System Voyage on my blog - http://abbylibrarian.blogspot.com/2009/0...

Hope that helps!
Personal History was very interesting. I don't normally read biographies and it kept me reading. It's an inside look on a very exciting time in American history.
It's a picture I had. It's an elephant I adopted.
Hello! I have been quite busy, attending summer classes and traveling with my friends. How about you?
I'm doing great, enjoying my summer! How are you?
I always want people to read Blood Meridian, A Confederacy Of Dunces, Catch 22, The Terror, and House Of Stairs. Anything by Vonnegut, especially Breakfast of Champions and Cat's Cradle.
You're welcome, Olivia. Are you reading anything you can demand that I go check out?
Well, sure! What do you want to know? I'm a student from New York, mercifully almost done with exams. I'll be taking a class at NYU and working over the summer.
I love the good ones - Outside over there by Sendak, the Animal Family by Randall Jarrell, E.Nesbit, the Moomintroll books by Tove Jansen, Hugo and Josephine and others by Maria Grimes.
Hi Olivia,
I just finished a mercy this week.
I was curious regarding your thoughts about this book.
Have a great day!
:)
Loretta
I'm am good. How about you. It looks like we have a lot of kid's books in common. Do you have a child in your life? Mine is grown now, although I've worked with kids a lot, but just not recently.
Thank you. I'm an English teacher, so there tends to be a lot of classic literature, but I also enjoy science fiction, fantasy, mysteries and historical fiction (or any combination of those). I'm working on a novel that's part history/part mythology, so there are also a lot of reference books.
Aww thanks!
Thanks for your interest in my library. I enjoy seeking out children's books based on historical personages (for both myself and my granddaughter!) and am gradually building up that aspect of my collection.
Hi there,
Sorry I have not gotten back to you sooner, life has been insanely busy. Thanks for adding me as a friend, I am really honored. I have one of your books and have been meaning to read it but some book or another keeps intruding. Thanks for your compliment on my page, that is very kind of you to say. Hope we can continue to chat.

Alrighty back to the rat race :)

Trish.
Dear Husband is an excellent collection of short stories by Joyce Carol Oates. (She is one of my favorite authors.) if you are new to reading short stories, this is a great book to start off with.
umm not children books, more young adult
i do enjoy it when i read to my younger cousins though
I do like children's books. I grew up reading Judy Blume and have re-read several of my childhood favorites as an adult.
I volunteered at their library for three years. It was a lot of fun and the people were very helpful and great to be with.
Hey! Thanks for the invite! =)
thanks
Very, very funny!
Hey, welcome!
thanks! re profile pic: I work at a school and our IT person decided we were looking at all the wrong web sites. we tried to convince him of the futility of categorizing sites as "educational" and "non-educational" to no avail. a history teacher made the graphic in response.
Good you?
thanks. I haven't been around very much recently b/c my hard drive left this pixilated plane. I'm trying to find out what I forgot to back up and rescan images.

so, I'm not very chatty at the moment.

however, it was very nice of you to stop by.
Nice to hear from you, Olivia.
I have enjoyed fine wines for several years. Especially from Bordeaux, and California. Oregon is the up and coming wine region, so you will be able to get good wines close to home. As you can see from my tags , I have 60 books on wine. It is a good reference library. But the best way to get to know wines is to drink them. (in moderation, of course). It is a fun hobby. We get together with friends and taste different wines. You should try it some time. let me know how you do.
On a different topic.
My daughter Sara will graduate from college in two weeks. She will have an elementary teacher certification. I hope she can find a job. when she does, I will tell her about your site and your interest in childrens books. Stay well, Carmelo
Olivia - thanks! I took a lot of English courses in both high school and as an undergrad. And I never get rid of any books!!
Hello Olivia! I must admit that I'm a little slow at figuring out all that is possible here on LibraryThing. I can see that we have a favorite author in common. Beloved by Toni Morrison is in my top five favorite adult novels.

:)Alisa
Thank you!
Olivia, Sorry to be so slow at getting back to you!
If you like period mysteries, you might like the Barbara Hambly "Benjamin January" books. They are about New Orleans just before the Civil War (first book takes place in 1833). I didn't know anything about New Orleans in that time. It was very different from the South that had been English!
I notice someone said they were reading the l'Engle books, the Wrinkle in Time series. I really like those. I read them again and again, just like I read the Narnia books pretty often, too. (I like fantasy!) Those series seem much more positive than Lord of the Rings. (I can't read too much of that without getting kind of depressed, even though they win the war, they lose, because the Elves leave.)

I read Morrison's Beloved and like it, which other book by her would you recommend?

Kitty
Hello,
Sorry for the delay in responding. I just finished the Twilight series and loved it! Someone recommended to me Sophie Stackhouse books so I think I will try them next.
Danielle
Are you a fan of Adam's then?
Thanks for the add! It sounds like you have written an imaginative children's book!
They are my grandchildren, Eleanor & Henry. Thanks for the compliment.

RE: "The Great Train Robbery"

I really enjoyed Chrichton's fictionalized tale.
My understanding is that he strayed from the original details of the crime, but
as a work of fiction, the story makes for an enjoyable weekend read.
This early work of his is much better than the last few novels he wrote before he passed on.

Thanks for stopping by my profile and asking.

Have a great day!
:)
Loretta
I've read a few Patterson books and I really liked "Cross". In fact, after finishing it, I'm looking forward to reading "Cross Country". Cross is fast paced and sort of like a thriller. I haven't looked at the kind of books you read, but if you enjoy murder-thriller-mysteries, then you would definitely enjoy this.
Sure, sorry it took so long to get back to you. I got swamped with homework. ~ Leslie Williams
Hello - I have been a little slow with my email lately. I've been spending a fair amount of time reading the Wrinkle in Time quintet to my kids and I've been on a nonfiction jag myself lately with lots of books about food, science, and sustainability. Currently I have a few books friends have given me including The Holy Longing, and The Good Earth. I've also got Out of Our Heads by Alva Noe in one room and I'm re-reading Blue Shoe by Anne Lamott at the couch. I've always had a problem about having many books going at any given time so that I where ever I am if I have a moment, there is something to read at hand.
Hi, I'm reading a lot of Jules Verne at the moment, and you?
I'm reading [Winter's Tale] By [[Mark Helprin]] A novel about Nw York City full of great discriptions, adventure, and magical realism. lots of fun. I'm also reading [The Nightmare of Reason], a life of Franz Kafka. And what about you?
That is very hard to do since I don't believe I totally like any one authors works; but, if I had to select one it would be Toni Morrison because they are so well written and in depth. If you are looking for something different, I would suggest Octavia Butler's Parable of the Sower or Kindred. Both very good books.
a page or two here and there. sadly, homework usually takes precedence since the institutions gives me money for good grades and good grades get me money, but i try and make time for the fun stuff, too.
Hi Olivia - i feel guilty admitting to a soft spot for Maurice Sendak, we must have something to share here :=>>. Will be interested to see more of your collection and am curious about your writing, best regards, jules
Olivia, Thanks for noticing my library. I see that you lke Toni Morrison. I ride my bicycle past her house along the Hudson River every few days. Carmelo
As I Walk with Beauty

As I walk, as I walk

The universe is walking with me

In beauty it walks before me

In beauty it walks behind me

In beauty it walks below me

In beauty it walks above me

Beauty is on every side

As I walk, I walk with Beauty.

Hi, which ones. I am a big fan of Thornton Burgess. My grandmother would read his books to me and my grandfather when I was a small child and I credit that experience with my future love of books. I read mostly SF and Historical fiction but love books about the nature and about learning. I check out your site and I will have to look for your book. My daughter is 3 1/2 and I have to read to her every night. I hope she will fall in love with books as much as I have.

Nice to meet you on line,
yo! you asked what I was reading? mostly its various things for homework (oh, the life of a college student): textbooks in personality and social psychology, "God is Dead" by Steve Bruce, and selections of the New Testament in Greek. For fun, though, I've got the Book of Mormon, Tict Naht Hahn's "Peace is Every Step", and the Thirteen Principle Upanishads (the primary Hindu holy texts) sitting next to my bed with the hopes of soon starting "Hymn of the Universe" by Pierre Tielhard de Chardin or rereading the Satanic Bible by Anton LaVey.
It's a good collection of short stories. Hope you enjoy it!
Thank you!
I just love to read.
You re welcome!
Nice to meet you!
Have a great Easter weekend!! :)
Thank you. Have a great Easter weekend, Olivia.
Songs Of Innocence: Introduction
by: William Blake (1757 - 1827)

Piping down the valleys wild,
Piping songs of pleasant glee,
On a cloud I saw a child,
And he laughing said to me:

"Pipe a song about a Lamb!"
So I piped with merry cheer.
"Piper, pipe that song again;"
So I piped: he wept to hear.

"Drop thy pipe, thy happy pipe;
Sing thy songs of happy cheer!"
So I sung the same again,
While he wept with joy to hear.

"Piper, sit thee down and write
In a book, that all may read."
So he vanished from my sight,
And I plucked a hollow reed,

And I made a rural pen,
And I stained the water clear,
And I wrote my happy songs
Every child may joy to hear.
